Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to get a tutor?
Because Students Tutor Students is a nonprofit organization, the cost to get a tutor is completely free of charge! All of our tutors are volunteers who are dedicated to assisting you with your academic needs!
How does Students Tutor Students ensure that all tutors are satisfactory?
We make sure to conduct interviews with each tutor on Zoom in order to guarantee that they meet all tutroing qualifications.Additionally, we work to collect supplemental information such as transcripts and current course selection. After the tutee has their first tutoring session, we make sure to check in with both the tutor and tutee about the overall experience. If at any time the tutee feels that their tutor cannot adequately meet their educational needs, we will match them with a more appropriate tutor!
How are students and tutors matched?
Great question! Once we get a request from a tutee, we carefully peruse through our list of tutors and select the student most qualified to serve the tutee's educational needs. For example, if someone was struggling with geometry, we would match them with a tutor that is passionate and talented in the field of geometry. From there, we connect the tutor and tutee together through email so they are able to set up sessions and discuss logistics.
What is the range of subjects do tutors cover? Are any tutors able to tutor AP / IB courses?
We currently have over 30 tutors who are able to tutor numerous different subjects! For mathematics, our tutors are able to tutor math classes ranging from basic arithmetic to highschool calculus! In regards to science, our tutor cover physics, biology, and chemistry at various different levels. Additionally, our tutors cover a wide range of English classes, ranging from reading to language and composition. Finally, for foreign languages we currently cover Spanish (1-5), French (1-3), and Japanese (1)!
What safeguards are in place to protect the students?
What prompted the creation of this organization?
The creation of Students Tutor Students was prompted by the devastating effects of COVID-19 on our education systems. We hope to spread the message of student collaboration and involvement during this time of disconnection. We also hope to alleviate some of the pressure put on students, teachers, and parents during this time.
What should I do if the tutor I have matched with is unable to help me with the topic I am studying?
If your tutor is unable to help you or if you had a negative experience with Students Tutor Students, please feel free to let us know on our complaint form and we will resolve your issue as soon as possible.
What security measures does Students Tutor Students take to ensure that all tutors are credible?
At Students Tutor Students, safety is extremely important to us. In terms of personal information, we have a Tutor Coordinator in charge of organizing and matching tutees to appropriate tutors. The information and email accounts are kept solely between the tutee, tutor, and Tutor Coordinator. Additionally, at Students Tutor Students we aim to ensure that both our tutors and tutees always feel safe and comfortable. After the first session, we check in with our tutors/tutees to make sure everything is running smoothly. We also ask our tutees to review their experience with their tutor. We plan to continually check in as sessions continue, most likely on a monthly basis. If there are ever any issues, we ask that our tutors/tutees contact us directly via email so we are able to sort everything out. All information remains private and confidential.
